Kingdom Business    by Scott Husted

The concept of Christian business that we see developing, in both the formation and transaction of business in our world today, is described as Kingdom Business. The term Kingdom Business is not a description of a business that is merely owned or run by Christians. This is only a minute part of the overall concept. What we are describing is a reality where every aspect of the operation of a business is seen as an extension of the Kingdom of God.

What makes a kingdom business is the position from which it is approached, transacted or executed, the Kingdom community needs the business fulfills, and what uses profits are put to. That position is shaped by a level of understanding and insight into God's plan to further His purposes in the local community, and infiltrate the marketplace and the local community with His kingdom power and values.

Principles for Kingdom Business

Kingdom businesses are businesses led and controlled by a person or persons who are committed to making their business a part of the present day purposes of God. Such businesses will manifest many of the following characteristics:

1. Interfaces between Heaven and Earth

Kingdom Businesses must see themselves as significant interfaces for the conversion of prophetic promises for apostolic times (times to strategically implement biblical patterns). They are extensions of the activity of the church and not separate entities in themselves.

2. Positive Relationship with the Local Church

Kingdom Businesses must build excellent relationships within the local churches and must operate in covenant with the leadership of the local church (not manipulation and control). This places a requirement for mature understanding upon the leaders of the church.

3. Mentality of the Kingdom

Kingdom businesses must be linked to a larger apostolic paradigm – a paradigm of planting and establishing the works of the Kingdom of God in the earth, that the “Kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdom of Our LORD, and of His Christ” -- and an accompanying apostolic purpose and goals. The culture of the business must reflect a Kingdom mentality and practice such as creativity, discipline, faith, breakthrough, prosperity, success, global mentality, team leadership and networking, e.g. The World says, "If I give from what I have I will have less; the Word says, "If we give, more shall be given to us."

4. Operating in divine light and inspiration

Kingdom businesses are activated in prophetic tools of the LORD in conducting business e.g. wisdom, knowledge, discerning, prophecy, etc. These can give us the edge and the advantage in deals, contracts, people-interaction, difficult decisions, foresight of trends, new developments etc. When owners and managers live with the consciousness of the light of the New Jerusalem in the presence of Father God, then these graces will be available.

This is not primarily a business issue, but is a Kingdom issue. Those who are righteous are given power, not just those working in the context of the church ministry. This power is available to believers through the Holy Spirit. These are not church gifts or gifts available only inside of a church building. We are expected to have a lifestyle of faith, like Abraham, Moses, Joseph, and Daniel. These men operated in faith where they were placed. We are a New Jerusalem community, a city set on a hill that men might behold our good works.

5. Principles of Biblical Character

The totality of the operation of the business must be regulated along the principles of biblical character and doctrines.

6. Access to Apostolic Resource

Kingdom businesses should be linked to apostolic ministry sources for the impartation of grace, favor and energy.

7. Contact Point to the World System

Kingdom businesses must develop a vision for themselves as contact points for spiritual ministries to the world's centers of influence in economics, trade and commerce, and politics. They design new entrance points for spiritual invasion into the commercial systems of the world.

Kingdom Businesses network within commercial systems to build a global Kingdom net of economic influence. (Jeremiah 51:31) They must not be “unclean”, and have minimum reliance on world economic structures so that when the systems fall they will not be broken. In Rev. 18, it is the apostles and prophets who rejoice when Babylon is shattered. The apostles and prophets referred to can be seen as a general indication of the apostolic networks of the Kingdom of God in the earth, countering that which is corrupt.

8. Fathering and Reproduction

Kingdom businesses must activate the kingdom principles of birthing and fathering. They help to birth new Kingdom businesses and they father/mentor new and emerging businesses dedicated to Kingdom goals. They must have the mentality of reproducers.

9. Resource Distribution

Kingdom businesses must carry a deliberate, structural commitment to regularly give of their resources to finance the advance of the Kingdom of God in the earth. Resourcing the Kingdom under the direction of the Holy Spirit must be a major purpose and goal of any Kingdom business.

We see business as part of the life of the Kingdom, and as part of the global plan of God. Kingdom businesses can become strategic tools through which God will fulfill His promises: of prosperity for His people, for the rebuilding of the ancient foundations of the House of Prayer and Worship in the earth, and of transferring the wealth of the nations to the purposes of the Kingdom of God. Kingdom businesses can also be strategic and tactical implements for confronting the heart of selfishness within the world of commerce, tools for making the kingdoms of this world into the kingdoms of our God.
